Our target
Track Toolkit aims to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA. No accessibility statute requires this of a free service run by one person — we're doing it anyway because it's the right bar to hold ourselves to.
Conformance status
Track Toolkit partially conforms to WCAG 2.2 Level AA. "Partially conforms" means some parts of the site do not yet meet the standard — see Known issues below for the specifics we already know about.
How we test
- Automated axe checks on every page you can reach as a signed-in user, at 1280px, 430px, 390px and 360px, run by hand before a change is merged. The admin console isn't in that suite
- Automated keyboard checks in the same suite, for the parts every page is built from: dialogs trap focus and give it back, Tab wraps inside them, Escape closes them, the sidebar opens and closes from the keyboard, and long titles don't push controls off a phone screen
- A colour-contrast check over the colours we define, run by hand before a change is merged. It compares colours as we define them, not every way a page might combine them, so an unusual combination in one component can still slip through
Those are all automated. We haven't yet done a hands-on pass with a screen reader, or a full keyboard walkthrough by a person — so if you use one and something is wrong, there's a good chance we haven't caught it, and we'd genuinely like to hear.
Known issues
These are the accessibility gaps we're aware of right now. This list shrinks as each one is fixed — it isn't exhaustive, and finding something that isn't listed here is useful feedback, not a surprise to us.
- Small brand-orange icons on tinted discs — on the home page's feature cards and numbered steps, the dashboard tiles, and a few result rows — sit below the 3:1 minimum for non-text contrast. Each one is decorative and repeats a heading or a number printed right beside it, so nothing is available only from the icon.
Feedback
If you run into an accessibility barrier, we want to know about it. Email us with what you were trying to do and what happened — email needs no account. If you're signed in, the feedback form works too.
